Every year, interior designers, architects, artists, and other professionals in the design industry eagerly await Pantone’s announcement of their color of the year.
The movement started over 20 years when the Pantone Color Institute was born, as a way to influence product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
The long awaited announcement took place just this week, and Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020 is Classic Blue, a “reflective, anchoring and self-assured” hue, “relaxed and restful — meant to offer us all a sense of needed tranquility,” says a spokesperson from Pantone.
So what’s in store for designers next year?
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.

There are simple ways to add Classic Blue into your life, through accessories like vases, mirrors, and paintings. As with anything color-related, the opportunities are limitless and we can’t wait to see what designers come up with next year.
