2019 was an unforgettable year for me, my family, and my business. This was the first year I was able to stay home with both of my kids, which was not only a huge eye-opening experience, also challenging in ways I never could have expected.
When Amelia was born in August 2018, we decided that I would stay home with her and Will for a year or so until we were ready to put her in daycare. She was two weeks old when Will started kindergarten. Needless to say, the first few months of his elementary school education were a blur for me, but we survived, and I can’t believe how quickly that year passed.
I am so grateful I was able to be home to witness everything Will experienced during his first year of elementary school, and learn what I need to be doing to make sure he always had what he needed. It’s truly been a blessing, and I hope that I can always be in their lives this way.
This year, I watched two siblings simultaneously fall in love with each other, get annoyed with each other, experience a taste of sibling rivalry and jealousy, and most importantly, grow closer to each other each day.
At the beginning of 2019 I was itching to get back to work in some form, but I wasn’t ready to leave my kids. By what I can only think was some kind of divine intervention, I was hired to illustrate my very first children’s book. It was a true labor of love, and the most creative challenging project I’ve ever had the opportunity to work on.
As I was working on that, I decided to pick up freelance graphic design and writing work here and there. I realized I should build a website, so at the very least, I had a place to put my portfolio.
Later this year, I decided to redesign it and found Melinda Davis from Six40Marketing to help me with that. Along the way, I learned all kinds of technical skills I never knew I’d want to or need to know, and on top of all of these things, decided to enroll in the New York Institute of Art and Design so I can be better trained on all of the Adobe Creative Cloud applications, which I had found myself using more and more each day.
After a year in business, SW Creative Services is thriving and evolving each day. Today, it’s a place where you can get the best in creative services like graphic design, copywriting, and marketing consulting. It’s also a place where I share my artwork with the world – one of the things I’m most passionate about.
I can’t wait to see what 2020 will bring for my family, business, and those in our lives. We are so lucky and blessed to be doing what we do here.
Happy New Year!
